چکیده
Several forward osmosis (FO) experiments were carried out using aqueous solutions of sodium chloride (NaCl) in different concentrations, as draw solution (DS), and freshwater, feed water (FW). The conducted at a constant temperature ~20°C symmetric cellulosic membrane two grades their values the molecular weight cut-off (MWCO), which is related to mean pore diameter. This study investigates effect diameter on flux DS solute diffusional across membrane. value indicates performance FO process, while an important factor that determines its practicality. A proportionality used specify relationship between for each type operational conditions. results this show increase concentration difference increases. It also found that, range tested membranes, membranes with larger diameters have lower higher flux.

A Short Review of Membrane Fouling in Forward Osmosis Processes
Interest in forward osmosis (FO) research has rapidly increased in the last decade due to problems of water and energy scarcity. FO processes have been used in many applications, including wastewater reclamation, desalination, energy production, fertigation, and food and pharmaceutical processing. However, the inherent disadvantages of FO, such as lower permeate water flux compared to pressure ...
متن کاملA numerical study of the effect of channel spacers on the performance of cross-flow forward osmosis membrane modules
In this paper, we perform two-dimensional simulations of cross-flow forward osmosis (FO) membrane modules in the presence of draw and feed channel spacers. For this purpose, the equations corresponding to the conservation of mass, momentum, and convection-diffusion for the mass fraction of solute are solved using a commercial finite volume flow solver. We consider six configurations of channel ...
متن کاملEffect of Organoclay on the Performance of Reverse Osmosis Membrane
This study investigated the effect of Cloisite15A (C15A) organoclay in the substrate layer on the performance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The substrate of the RO membranes was modified using different loading of C15A (ranging from 0.3 - 0.7 wt%) within polysulfone (PSf) substrate and the polyamide (PA) selective layer was formed on the top. Effect of the modified substrate layer on the w...
متن کاملUsing UCST Ionic Liquid as a Draw Solute in Forward Osmosis to Treat High-Salinity Water.
The concept of using a thermoresponsive ionic liquid (IL) with an upper critical solution temperature (UCST) as a draw solute in forward osmosis (FO) was successfully demonstrated here experimentally. A 3.2 M solution of protonated betaine bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([Hbet][Tf2N]) was obtained by heating and maintaining the temperature above 56 °C. This solution successfully drew water f...
متن کاملForward Osmosis in Wastewater Treatment Processes.
In recent years, membrane technology has been widely used in wastewater treatment and water purification. Membrane technology is simple to operate and produces very high quality water for human consumption and industrial purposes. One of the promising technologies for water and wastewater treatment is the application of forward osmosis. Essentially, forward osmosis is a process in which water i...
